Our thoughts go out to the Spangler family on the death of Murphy, their beloved almost 12 year old Airedale/German Shepherd Mix. Adopted from Channel 8 News shortly after they had lost one of their previous Airedales on Valentine's Day..they weren't necessarily 'looking' to adopt another pup so soon. But when they turned on the tv and the lady was holding a tiny Airedale resembling puppy, they couldn't resist! The pups had been abandoned off the highway in a corn field in Lancaster..this led to Murphy being highly alert and afraid of any boxes, containers or trash cans. They figured they were most likely transported in one of the 3 and that is where his fear stemmed. He did eventually get over that initial fear but he would still keep a close eye on Larry when he was taking out the trash or bringing the cans back. The Spangler's noticed when they adopted Murphy..and as he grew he had one floppy ear and one that stood up..unlike Airedale purebreds, who only have floppy ears. Low and behold his floppy ear went straight too! Then they knew he was not purebred and found he was mixed with German Shepherd. This made him very personable and loving. His personality was one for the books, he loved to lay on the couch and put his head right in your lap. Murphy knew that when the Spangler's went away, his cage was his home and eventually they could even leave the crate door open and they'd find him resting peacefully in his crate anyway. Murphy didn't so much prefer other pets as he did his people. His dear spirit will be greatly missed, but his memory will always live on in the Spangler's hearts.
