Forever In Our Hearts

Our thoughts go to Veronica Stanko and the Stanko family on the death of Sparkie, their 15 year old beloved Jack Russell & Chihuahua mix. Sparkie was rescued by Veronica when she was only 10 years old and had found Sparkie having a very rough go at life, no food, chained up in a basement. From the day the Stanko's brought him home..all that flipped and he was the spoiled baby. Sparkie was always a little food aggressive due to his past but the family knew how to deal with him, all except grandpa..When Sparkie stole a roast off the table he chased and chased him...ending up bitten because he reached for what Sparkie thought was his prize. Sparkie would often beg for vegetables (mostly broccoli) which got him the nickname 'Vegetable Terrier'. Even in Sparkie's elder age, once he had gone blind and deaf he would wander all the way down their super long hallway to find Lisa preparing broccoli for steaming. They always found this amazing and it gave them a chuckle because other days Sparkie would stare at the wall not knowing where he was...his love for vegetables was just that strong. He would even go as far as to drop meat for veggies. Sparkie was always the run of the roost as well, always showing all the big dogs who was boss. Veronica and her sister knew Sparkie knew he was their baby..he always wanted mommy, then Auntie and then if neither were home he might settle for Lisa. Veronica however was the apple of his eye, he let her do anything and everything to him, like he was her little baby. She would dress him up in a tutu call him 'Servant Betty', take him around in the baby carrier, toddler name it he let her have her way with him..but if anyone else tried that they would be snarled at! Veronica specifically loved to rub on Sparkie's ears since they were suuper soft and he enjoyed it as well. Once Sparkie's main two senses were gone he went downhill quickly and when visiting the vet they had given him until Christmas at best..he surpassed those expectations and gave the Stanko family two more wonderful months of memories. Even today on the way to the vets he had his head out the window, always pulling through his close calls in life with such a wonderful , quirky personality...Sparkie you will be missed.

Sparkie was a very special boy! I loved him so much, and I will miss him when I visit. I know he would have loved to come home to Ohio with Aunt Mel at least once. ;) You have great memories from the time you were just a little girl, and I pray those sustain you over these next difficult days and weeks as you adjust to life without your boy. I love you! Aunt Mel
